Upcoming workshops and performance.

Huang Yi & KUKA  -- Fall 2015 Artist-In-Residence
Residency Activity Opportunities
Purdue Convocations

Yi has choreographed a work with a KUKA industrial robot that is thought-provoking in its explorations of human-robot relations, the ways that precision, power and code interface with emotion, movement and meaning. It is also an opportunity to see an industrial robotic arm used in so many manufacturing contexts (e.g. cars) in action.

Huang Yi is scheduled for several lecture/demo sessions in Loeb Theater, which are open to all interested students and faculty.

What:
Huang Yi & KUKA
Choreographer/inventor/technologies Huang Yi combines dance, technology, mechanical elements, and visual components to create Huang Yi &KUKA, a work poetically links industrial technology and performing arts with stunning precision and artistry. Paired with Bach and Arvo Pärt, music and sounds transform the seemingly avant-garde idea into an emotional and thought-provoking journey. With a sense of serenity and surrounded by melancholic atmosphere, this work examines the nature of human and machine interaction and the human and technology relationship in the modern world.

This work is full of potential for interdisciplinary discussions, including philosophical and sociological considerations, aside from the obvious art, design, dance, and STEM-related aspects.

All,

See the note on the artist talk this Thursday at 5:30pm. I offer extra credit points (up to 4 per student per semester) if you write a review on exhibitions and/or gallery talks by artists. This particular exhibition is incredibly thought-provoking with regard to social media which is very "photographic" indeed!

Please join us this Thursday, September 10 th , at 5:30 pm for an artist talk and reception by artist Liz Wierzbicki.

Artist Talk & Reception
Thursday, September 10 th , 5:30 pm
Patti and Rusty Rueff Galleries (East)

Indiana-based artist Liz Weirzbicki’s work is affected by cultural ideals of femininity, sexual freedom, and a personal desire for an emotional connection to the environment. Wierzbicki creates sculptures, prints, and videos that explore the interactions and disaffections of our emotions, the body, intimacy, and the sensory experiences we share with our world. The work shown in “becoming attraction” specifically examines these ideas in relation to contemporary mating rituals and dating practices.

Liz Wierzbicki is currently based in Indianapolis and taught for us last semester (Spring 2015). You can find out more about her work here:http://lizwierzbicki.com/home.html
