AD267 Artist Presentation
WHEN DUE: 10/24 and 10/26
WHAT: Find an artist that you are interested in that
utilizes Photoshop skills to alter the “reality” of their photographs. Research
their history, techniques, style, and content to present a comprehensive
introduction of your artist to the class on one of the dates above. They are
research presentation projects designed to further our understanding of working
artists using Photoshop to alter reality today.
Talk about them conceptually. Discuss why you like their
work or why you chose them. Discuss what a “fake” world means to viewers of
photography, video, any visual art and tie it to your chosen artist.
LENGTH: These should be 10-12 minutes long.
HOW: You must use visual imagery in the form of something
like a Powerpoint. You will load it into your folder on the server.
You should talk about ideas and motivations that inform the artist’s work in general as well as the issues that informed the piece/examples that you show during the presentation. You might want to include excerpts from the artist’s statement or quotes from texts written about the artist.
Find out and discuss the artist’s process and the ways he or she approaches art making. You could even try and email the artist (provided that he or she is still alive) to ask thoughtful questions.
What is the historical and cultural context of the artist’s work and ideas?
Please tell us why you chose the artist and how the work and ideas impact your work.
Format
The presentation should be about maximum of 10 minutes long. Create a powerpoint or PDF version of your presentation and load your powerpoint p/PDF on your blog before the presentation day.
Expectations
The presentation should demonstrate more than cursory knowledge of the artist your are presenting as well as your thoughts on the artists ideas and work.
Each presentation would be worth 10% of your grade. Late presentation won’t be accepted.
